Bingo and Oklahoma: Two Peas in a Pod

Oklahoma has for a long time been synonymous with Bingo. That is due to the fact that the Amerindian bands of Oklahoma have provided Bingo sessions for decades. Patrons from all of the surrounding states get in trucks and visit Oklahoma to gamble on Bingo over the weekends.

The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act became law after a precedent setting decision by The U.S. Supreme Court the year before. From that instance, twenty three of the thirty nine Indian bands of Oklahoma have established bingo halls. The Chickasaw were the 1st Oklahoma American Indian band to take advantage of the gaming restrictions, and today run 10 gambling dens of their own. Bingo is the game on which these casinos were built on. Electronic games such as slot machine games were not allowed, due to the fact that they are believed to contribute to gambling dependency at a higher rate than bingo.

In recent years, Oklahoma governing edicts have altered to allow for big American Indian betting gambling dens. You’ll now find Indian gambling halls with one armed bandits, video poker and twenty-one tables. Craps and roulette are not legal in the Indian casinos yet, but this is just a waiting game. Nobody can say whether having different gambling hall games in the bingo parlors will do for the draw of bingo.
