Might the Anti Smoking Law in Britain Drive Bingo Players On to the Internet?

Much has been stated in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt because of the anti cigarette law in England. Things have grown so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for big aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. However does the net variation of this quintessential game present a reprieve, or might it in no way compare to its land based opposite?

Bingo is an established game historically played by the "blue haired" generation. However the game lately had experienced a recent resurgence in appeal with younger members of society deciding to go to the bingo halls in place of the bars on a weekend. All this is about to be destroyed with the enacting of the smoking ban all over UK.

No longer will enthusiasts be permitted to puff on cigarettes whilst marking numbers. Starting in the summer of ‘07 all public places will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favored areas where folks like to puff on cigarettes.

The results of the smoking ban can already be observed in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo halls. Profits have plunged and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for to stay alive. But where did all the players go? Of course they have not cast aside this enduring game?

The answer is online. Gamblers are now realizing that they can bet on bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a cocktail and cig and in the end, have a chance at big jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the ban on smoking.

Of course betting on on the web is unlikely to replace the communal aspect of heading over to the bingo hall, but for a group of players the rules have left a good many bingo players with little choice.
