Bingo and Oklahoma: Two birds of a feather

[ English ]

Oklahoma has for a long time been analogous with Bingo. This is because the Amerindian bands of Oklahoma have run Bingo sessions for years. Patrons from every one of the surrounding states pile in trucks and travel into Oklahoma to enjoy Bingo for the weekends.

The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) became law after a landmark ruling by The U.S. Supreme Court the year before. From that instance, 23 of the thirty nine Native tribes located in Oklahoma have established bingo halls. The Chickasaw were the 1st Oklahoma Native tribes to take advantage of the wagering restrictions, and today control ten casinos of their very own. Bingo was the game on which these gambling dens were built on. automated games like slot machine games were not approved, owing to the fact that they’re thought to contribute to gambling problems at a higher rate than bingo.

In recent years, Oklahoma governing edicts have altered to permit enormous Native wagering casinos. You’ll now see American Indian gambling halls with slot machines, video poker and blackjack tables. Craps and roulette are still not legal in the American Indian gambling halls as of yet, although that is only a waiting game. Nobody can determine whether having different games in the bingo houses will do for the popularity of bingo.
