Can the Smoking Ban in Britain Drive Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Internet?

[ English ]

A lot has been stated in the press just a while ago regarding the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the cigarette ban in Britain. Things have become so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive tax cuts to help keep the businesses alive. But does the internet adaptation of this quintessential game offer a salvation, or might it never compare to its real life peer?

Bingo has been an established game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. For all that the game recently had experienced a recent comeback in appeal with younger people deciding to hit the bingo parlours in place of the discos on a Friday night. This is all about to be reversed with the legislating of the smoking ban around Britain.

Players will no longer be permitted to smoke whilst dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of ‘07 every public place will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their venues and this includes Bingo parlors, which are possibly the most favorite places where players enjoy smoking.

The effects of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already not allowed in the bingo halls. Numbers have dropped and the industry is absolutely fighting for its life. But where have all the players gone? Surely they have not abandoned this classic game?

The answer is on the internet. People are now realizing that they can participate in bingo from their computer at the same time enjoying a beverage and smoke and in the end, have a chance at big jackpots. This is a recent anomaly and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti smoking law.

Of course playing on the web will never replace the communal aspect of heading over to the bingo parlour, but for a group of men and women the governing edicts have left a number of bingo enthusiasts with no option.
