Can the Anti Cigarette Law in the UK Drive Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Web?

[ English ]

A lot has been written in the press not long ago concerning the bingo industry singing the blues as a consequence of the smoking ban in Britain. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has demanded massive aid to help keep the industry from going bankrupt. However will the web variation of this classic game present a reprieve, or will it not compare to its real life kin?

Bingo is an classic game historically enjoyed by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game recently had seen a recent increase in appeal with younger men and women deciding to go to the bingo parlors rather than the discos on a Saturday night. This is all about to be reversed with the enforcement of the cigarette ban throughout United Kingdom.

No longer will enthusiasts be allowed to puff on cigarettes whilst marking off their numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public locations will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favorite locations where players enjoy smoking.

The outcome of the smoking ban can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already illegal in the bingo parlors. Players have dropped and the business is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have the players gone? Certainly they have not forgotten this age old game?

The answer is on the internet. People know that they can gamble on bingo from their computer while enjoying a beverage and fag and in the end, enjoy massive jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has timed itself bordering on perfect with the ban on cigarettes.

Of course playing on the net is unlikely to replace the collective part of heading down to the bingo hall, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with little alternative.
