Can the Anti Smoking Law in England Force Bingo Players On to the Internet?
An abundance has been written in the papers just a while ago regarding the bingo industry being hurt because of the anti cigarette law in the United Kingdom. Things have grown so awful that in Scotland the Bingo industry has called for massive tax breaks to assist in keeping the industry afloat. However will the net adaptation of this quintessential game present a salvation, or will it not compare to its land based equivalent?
Bingo is an ancient game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. Although the game recently had witnessed a recent increase in popularity with younger men and women deciding to go to the bingo parlors instead of the clubs on a weekend. All this is about to be reversed with the enforcement of the cigarette ban around Britain.
No longer will enthusiasts be permitted to puff on cigarettes at the same time marking off their numbers. From the summer of ‘07 every public place will no longer be permitted to allow smoking in their locations and this includes Bingo halls, one of the most favorite areas where many people enjoy smoking.
The effects of the smoking ban can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already prohibited in the bingo parlors. Numbers have plummeted and the industry is beyond a doubt fighting for its life. But where have the players gone? Obviously they have not forgotten this age old game?
The answer is on the net. Players realize that they can play bingo from their computer whilst enjoying a drink and smoke and still have a chance at big cash rewards. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened bordering on perfect with the anti cigarette law.
Of course betting on on the net is unlikely to replace the collective aspect of heading over to the bingo parlor, but for a group of people the law has left a number of bingo enthusiasts with no option.
