Could the Smoking Ban in Britain Take Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Net?

A lot has been stated in the press just a while ago concerning the bingo industry being hurt as a result of the cigarette ban in England. Conditions have grown so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. However will the web version of this classic game offer a reprieve, or will it not compare to its bricks and mortar opposite?

Bingo is an age old game generally enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game lately had witnessed a recent return in appeal with younger members of society deciding to hit the bingo halls instead of the bars on a weekend. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the enforcement of the cigarette ban all over United Kingdom.

No longer will enthusiasts be able to smoke while dabbing numbers. From the summer of 2007 all public places will no longer be allowed to permit cigarettes in their locations and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most popular locations where folks enjoy smoking.

The effects of the cigarette ban can already be looked at in Scotland where smoking is already illegal in the bingo halls. Players have dropped and the industry is beyond a doubt struggling for its life. But where have the players gone? Certainly they haven’t deserted this established game?

The answer is on the internet. Gamblers know that they can bet on bingo in front of their computer while enjoying a beer and fag and still have a chance at massive jackpots. This is a recent phenomenon and has happened almost perfectly with the anti smoking law.

Of course gambling on online will never replace the collective part of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of people the governing edicts have left many bingo enthusiasts with little option.
