Will the Cigarette Ban in England Force Bingo Enthusiasts On to the Web?

An abundance has been written in the papers recently about the bingo industry struggling because of the anti cigarette law in England. Conditions have become so bad that in Scotland the Bingo industry has requested massive aid to help keep the businesses from going bankrupt. But can the web version of this traditional game provide a lifeline, or will it in no way compare to its land based opposite?

Bingo is an classic game usually enjoyed by the "blue haired" generation. However the game lately had seen a recent resurgence in acceptance with younger men and women deciding to visit the bingo halls instead of the clubs on a weekend. All this is about to get flipped on its head with the enacting of the anti smoking law around England and Wales.

Players will no longer be able to smoke at the same time marking numbers. Starting in the summer of 2007 every public location will no longer be permitted to allow cigarettes in their buildings and this includes Bingo parlours, which are possibly the most favorite places where folks like to smoke.

The results of the anti smoking law can already be seen in Scotland where cigarettes are already barred in the bingo parlors. Players have plunged and the industry is literally fighting for to stay alive. But where have all the players gone? Certainly they have not abandoned this established game?

The answer is on the internet. People know that they can gamble on bingo using their computer while enjoying a beer and cigarette and in the end, enjoy monstrous cash rewards. This is a recent development and has happened almost perfectly with the ban on smoking.

Of course gambling on on the net is unlikely to replace the social part of heading down to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of men and women the governing edicts have left a good many bingo players with little option.
