Could the Anti Cigarette Law in the United Kingdom Force Bingo Players On to the Web?
An abundance has been written in the press just a while ago concerning the bingo industry being hurt because of the anti smoking law in Britain. Things have become so poor that in Scotland the Bingo industry has asked for huge tax cuts to assist in keeping the businesses from going bankrupt. But can the online adaptation of this quintessential game offer a reprieve, or will it not compare to its real life opposite?
Bingo has been an age old game usually played by the "blue rinse" generation. However the game lately had experienced a recent comeback in popularity with younger people deciding to go to the bingo halls instead of the discos on a Friday night. This is all about to get flipped on its head with the introduction of the smoking ban around United Kingdom.
Players will no longer be allowed to smoke while dabbing numbers. Beginning in the summer of 2007 all public locations will not be allowed to permit smoking in their venues and this includes Bingo parlours, one of the most common locations where players enjoy smoking.
The results of the anti smoking law can already be seen in Scotland where smoking is already barred in the bingo parlors. Profits have dropped and the industry is absolutely struggling for its life. But where did all the players go? Certainly they haven’t forgotten this ancient game?
The answer is on the net. People are now realizing that they can enjoy bingo from their computer while enjoying a beverage and fag and in the end, enjoy big cash rewards. This is a recent anomaly and has happened almost perfectly with the anti smoking law.
Of course wagering on online could never replace the communal part of going over to the bingo parlor, but for a demographic of players the rules have left many bingo players with no option.
