Bingo and Oklahoma: Two birds of a feather

Oklahoma has for a long time been interrelated with Bingo. This is due to the fact that the Amerindian bands of Oklahoma have provided Bingo games for many years. Patrons from every one of the nearby states get in vans and travel to Oklahoma to enjoy Bingo on the weekends.

The 1988 Indian Gaming Regulatory Act (IGRA) followed a landmark ruling by The U.S. Supreme Court just the year before. Since that instance, twenty three of the thirty nine Amerindian bands of Oklahoma have introduced gaming halls. The Chickasaw were the initial Oklahoma American Indian band to take advantage of the gaming restrictions, and today run ten casinos of their own. Bingo is the game on which these casinos were founded. automated games such as slot machines were not authorized, since they’re believed to lead to gambling addiction more than bingo.

In the past few years, Oklahoma law has changed to permit massive Amerindian wagering gambling dens. You will now see American Indian gambling halls with slots, video poker and vingt-et-un tables. Craps and roulette are not authorized in the American Indian gambling halls yet, but that is only a waiting game. No one can say whether having different gambling hall games in the bingo houses will do for the popularity of bingo.
